These days a express way runs above the river that the bridge crosses.

Nihonbashi
The area of Nihonbashi is named after the bridge of the same name. Nihonbashi means Bridge of Japan, and during the reign of the Tokugawa Shoguns (1603 - 1868) all distances were measured from here similar to how the Romans measured distances from Rome. Today's bridge is a modern structure very different to the original wooden one but I do like the lights.

Nice to see a more traditional touch on the modern bridge. I guess the old stuff often has to give way to more modern, practical infrastructure.
